THE FILM

Short synopsis

Since 2007, Melodie Brookman has reported a disturbing presence that follows her from one home to another. What began as disembodied voices while she worked for a psychic network in Simi Valley escalated, she says, into threats, unexplained bruising, unsettling apparitions, and repeated sexual assaults by an unseen force.

In 2020, documentary filmmaker and paranormal investigator Barry Conrad met Brookman during an investigation. After the two developed a relationship and she moved into his home, infrared cameras were installed to document the reported activity. One night, Conrad observed the bedcovers pulsing over Brookman as she slept—footage she associates with the assaults she describes.

Through actual footage, eyewitness interviews, and Brookman’s personal account, this feature-length documentary explores her prolonged ordeal and Conrad’s effort to understand the events surrounding her.

His credits include Monsters of the UFO, Incident at Kelly, Legend of the Flatwoods Monster, Mothman, Man, Myth or Monster, and The Travis Walton Story in Their Own Words. His latest feature documentary, Prism of Darkness: The Evil Attachments of Melodie Brookman, grew out of his introduction to Brookman in 2020 and subsequent firsthand documentation of unusual events surrounding her.
